Random Conversation

I woke up this morning thinking of the funny conversations that I have with the boys so I thought I'd share a few:

Connor: Kale, don't play this game yet I gotta read what it says. Oh..um.. yup.  Ok Kale you're old enough to play it.

Me: Kale lets go have a nap.  We can read a story first.
Kale: OK mom, here Bible book.
Me: After I read the story while I'm tucking him in.
Kale: Mom, Bible book.
Me: You want your Bible with you
Kale: Yup
And so for the last 2 days he has had to have his Bible in the crib with him before he'll lay down.  Then he rolls on his tummy and starts to read his Bible.

Me: Connor I had a great morning with you at the zoo, you were so good.  And you know what?
Connor: (smiling) You love me.
Me: I sure do and give him a hug.  He hugs me back and says I love you to Mom.

Connor: Mom I just don't have any energy
Me: How would you like to fix that?
Connor: Um I think some chocolate.

Me: Kale let's go get ready for church.
Kale: K mom (in his man voice)
After I'm done
Kale stands up: I handsome

Connor has loved playing go fish lately and if I'm not available to play he enlists his brother.  He'll give each of them some cards and then leave the pile in the middle.  He helps Kale get his matches and then asks him if he has a color.  Kale not knowing how to play at all just says go fish.
Connor: no Kale you have it right there.
Kale: Go fish
Connor: I need this one (points to the card he wants)
Kale: K Connor (and gives him the card)

I know there are several others I was thinking about but they have escaped me now.

Radium Getaway

We spent last week in Radium for a little getaway before calving starts.  The weather was decent and we spent a lot of time outside.  The first morning we headed out to play on the park and the sheep were close enough we could have pet them.  The boys loved it and from that moment every time we left the condo they were on the lookout for sheep.

Just down the hill from the condo was a beautiful ravine with a stream.  I had found it while walking one morning and then we took the boys down after sledding.
With all our outdoor activities the boys were wiped by nap time.  While they napped Tim and I (mostly me) enjoyed playing games.  Got a new one out there called Alhambra and it we enjoyed learning it.
The boys LOVED having dad around all day.
The one disappointment was that the hot springs in Radium didn't open till noon everyday and their cool pool had water in it but closed to public.  We typically go to Fairmont for our winter getaway but they stopped their airmiles special and it was more expensive than getting a 2 bed/2 bath condo.  Our favorite thing to do in Fairmont is to use the hot pools morning and evening.  I love swimming lengths outside when it is -10 out.  But in Radium I never got to.  We enjoyed the hot pool everyday and the boys, especially Kale, got super comfortable in the water.  Kale is a little fish.
My highlight of the trip was cross country skiing around Invermere lake.  We rented this stroller unit and took turns hauling the boys.  It was a beautiful morning and I loved being able to take in God's creation with my family.  I have a little fear of actually being on a frozen lake.  But we got reports saying that it was over 12 inches thick (the ice).  I saw a couple trucks driving around on it and decided it would be ok for us to go.

The boys thought the fishing huts were kinda neat.

It was a wonderful trip and I am very grateful that we were able to do it.

My word for the year

For the last couple of months I have struggled with God's timing of things.  I have realized that I really like to have control over my live and often that doesn't jive with what God wants for me.  For the last year Philippians 4 has been my chapter.  Right now my favorite verse is Philippians 4:13: I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

I have the serenity prayer on a plaque above the sink, where I can be reminded daily of God's plan for me.

I can't change that my husband is a farmer.  Don't get me wrong I wouldn't want it any other way.  But sometimes I do find myself wishing he worked 9 - 5 and had every weekend off.  God is teaching me to be CONTENT and to find the joy in each situation rather than wishing for something else.  Like the chance for the boys and I to work along side Tim everyday doing chores.  Watching Tim teach his boys his passion for farming.  Having so much family just up the road to visit because they all work on the farm.

I have two amazing little boys in my life and I love staying at home with them.  But sometimes I find myself wanting to scream by the end of the day - tired of saying no, tired of disciplining, tired of making decisions all day long and just  wanting me time with no kids.  But again God is teaching me to be CONTENT in the moment and at the end of the day focusing on the giggles we shared or the random hug with a I love you mommy that I got.  To be greatful that God has trusted these boys into our care.

Other issues in my life seem to go along the same tune.  I need to choose to be content in every moment God gives me.  I need to remind myself daily to seek God first and the rest of the day will usually not go to bad.  I need to remember that God has a plan and purpose for me and his timing is what is important - not my timing.  So the word I'm going set for 2013 in CONTENT.

Christmas Fun

Christmas morning was low key at our place.  The boys really got into opening their stockings this year. I had to restuff Connor's about 4 times.
I made Kale this John Deere blankie and he loves it.
Connor doesn't have a good blanket that fits his bed so I made a rag quilt for him this Christmas.
Later in the day we had Buddie and Janna out.  Tom and Ruth joined us for supper.

On Boxing Day we had the Johnstons and the Earles at our place for an afternoon of visiting and supper.  It is so fun to get everyone together.  Our place worked great to have lots of family and friends in.
We had a day to clean and recuperate and then on the 28 we had the Earle's over for the big Christmas.  It felt rushed and short and the same time but we had a great time. Tom and Ruth left the next morning to head back south.
Another day to clean and pack and then we headed down to my parents for the Markert Christmas on the 30 an 31.  Kale and dad built a huge marble run. It was fun to watch  them interact and watch Kale boss Papa around like he does everyone.
Finally the weather wasn't -30 so we headed out for some snow fun.

 All the cousins ready and.....
off they go.

We made a jump for the boys to go over.  Papa thought it would be fun to see if the boys could clear him.
