Thompson Reunion

Well, the long weekend of July we were up in Lac La Biche for a family reunion for my mom`s side. Their were 12 children on her dad`s side of the family and only 4 of them are still alive. 3 were able to make it to the reunion as well as a sister-in-law. It was great to see everybody again. My great grandfather actually homesteaded near Black Diamond and my great aunt Mary still lives there. My moms` uncle Frank kinda ran away from home when he was 16 looking to homestead in the Peace River area. He didn`t have a good sense of direction and ended up in Northeast Alberta instead of Northwest. Anyhow, the reunion was on his homestead. They farm right on the lake! We were able to stay in their cabin on the lake. So needless to say, we had some more fun on the jet skiis.
My mom is sitting with her Aunt Joyce from Halifax.
The lady on the left is my great aunt Eda. She is the wife of Uncle Frank who homesteaded here. The one next to her is my Great Aunt Mary. She still lives on the original Thompson homestead and at 87 years old still calves out 140 cows, and hays a section of land with her brother. She is an amazing women. She has never been away from the farm before and she thoroughly enjoyed the new sites and the visits with everybody.
You can`t see it very well but this is a cow milking contest. They filled latex gloves with water, poked holes in the tips of a few fingers, and milked the fingers into cups. The adults were just suppose to hold the gloves, but we had just as much fun as the kids.
