Whitefish 2010

I know it has been a while since I posted. We were on holidays this past week in Whitefish Montana. However, the week before we left all three of us got the flu. We delayed our trip a day so that we were all feeling better.
The Going-to-the-sun road opened June 25. We were driving thru June 27 and this is what greeted us at the summit (6650 ft). My family has made this trip many times and we always stop here for a little hike. The only way we were going to hike this was with cross country skis.

We rented a condo on the lake and this was our view from the eating area. We didn't take our jetbikes with us. It is too hard to get them in the water with just two of us and somebody needing to watch Connor. But when Connor was napping Tim constantly looked out and wished he had brought at least one of them.

Connor didn't sleep great while we were there - waking up between 5:30 and 6:30. So I took him out for morning walks to let Tim get some more shut eye. We don't get very far in our walks as Connor has to pick up every stick and stone around. Later in the week Tim decided that he would join us for our morning outings and we took the bikes down to the river park and played a while.

Our first day there Connor wasn't going down for his morning nap so we decided to head up to the ski hill and see what we could do. There was a hike that was only 3.8 miles so we figured we would do it. We didn't read very well cuz that 3.8 miles was straight up to the summit. It was a beautiful hike but very tiring. The last 1/4 we were hiking in snow. This is the view from the top. At different spots we were able to see Whitefish Lake.

When we were leaving the hill Connor would not come cuz he had a very important job to do - pick up rocks.

Tim and I don't do well sitting around in an unfamiliar place. So we often went for evening walks with Connor to. They have a nice sandy city beach a short way away from our condo. The lake was high so our beach was under water. It took Connor a little while to figure out why the water was coming in and then going out. But he had fun picking up rocks and throwing them into the water.

One morning on the park.

I realized near the end of the trip I hadn't taken many pictures. But we got a few good family pictures. Other highlights of the trip were finding a few good deals, experiencing Whitefish farmers market, and successful mini golfing with Connor.
On the way home the summit was windy and only 2 degrees. I still couldn't get over all the snow.

A family picture in Glacier National Park.
On the way home, Connor found a container of floss and pulled it all out. He thought he was pretty smart!
