A Hike in the Mountains

Since school has started Kale has been asking to go for a "hike in the mountains" almost everyday.  But I didn't want to do it without Connor, so yesterday I packed up my kiddos and Connor's friend Joel and headed to the Kananaskis.  When we got there it was pouring rain so we went to the village and ate an early lunch.  The rain had died down a bit so we headed out.  Luckily we all had rain gear because as I was putting Lexi into the backpack it started to rain pretty good.  One good thing with boys is that rain only makes things more fun.
We headed out on Hidden Trail towards Troll Falls.
These 2 are peas in a pod.  I am very grateful for their friendship and that they are in the same class.

Finally the trees broke and the clouds lifted for the kids to actually see the mountains.
After this picture we walked out onto the Nakiska ski hill.  I thought for sure we were lost but the kids humored me and once we walked across the ski hill we found the trail again.  And this trail was FUN - all down hill.  Connor and Joel loved it and ran the whole way down.  Kale was my little side kick and stayed with me and Lexi.
We made it to the falls and they were super cool.  We were able to cross the little creek and stand almost under the falls.  On the other side were very cool rocks to climb and caves to inspect.  We could have easily spent an hour playing and eating but we had to get Joel back for piano lessons.
My camera battery died for the next few pictures but the trusty iphone captured some fun.

Proof that she was with us!!

We took a different trail back and the majority of it was down hill.  So again J & C ran ahead of us and Kale stuck with me.  We had a ton of fun and the kids didn't complain once.  In total we hiked 4.5 km.  It was a very doable hike for families.
