Getting ready for Babies

This past weekend my parents came up to see us. It is funny how my dad as soon as he gets here naps it seems like every 3 hours. We could be crashing away in the kitchen and he is sitting in the recliner in the the living room (no wall in between) snoring away. And he can do this for just 10 minutes and feel refreshed for a while. He blamed it on his lack of sleep the night before; but we all know that it is cuz he works too hard for a guy almost 59. I bet many 25 year olds couldn't keep up the pace that my dad works. At least he will go home well rested.
He doesn't like sitting around though so he helped Tim Saturday afternoon while my mom and I sewed. I forgot to get a picture of our production. Mom brought her serger over and we made 4 crib sheets and about 15 receiving blankets for Timbit. Mom had previously made a couple crib sheets and hooded towels for Timbit, so we are set in that category. We saved some farm fabric I had bought for receiving blankets to make into blankets later. It was just too cute to be a RB. But we didn't have enough fabric for a border so those will have to wait till later. We were so efficient though that we were done by lunch. After lunch we headed out into the 100 km wind (ok maybe not that strong but it sure felt like it) for a walk. It was an awful cold walk to the farm cuz we were pushing the strong wind and going up hill.
We started calving Jan 27 this year. We brought the heifers home from where they were wintering on the 27th and had 2 calves by nightfall. Tim figures that the moving them stimulated calving. The weather was gorgeous though and they are all doing fine.

Here are the two that were born early. The one lying down has a mom elsewhere in the pen. This heifer wasn't too sure about Sadie being in the pen. We are going to have to stop letting her come in the pen with us now that we are calving.
Dad and Tim were setting the penning in the barn. Mom and I got put to work when we came up to inspect. I just took a little break to take the picture.

On Saturday there were 2 more calves born. This one was born while we were doing chores. Dad and Tim had to pull the other one. It is super cute but I didn't want to disturb them as they were in the old barn. Dad had never seen a calf pulled before so that was a first for him. Neither were very mobile by evening so they had to tube them. But this morning they were both doing fine.

And this is me at 34 1/2 weeks. I think Timbit dropped yesterday. Although I never felt Timbit fall, his movements are definitely lower today. Timbit loves the singing part of church. Every Sunday he is just kicking away; it feels like he is going to jump out of my belly button. But today it felt like he was going to drop out of me. I have been feeling fine as usual. After our walk yesterday and today though I have a very sore back. I think it is a combination of uneven frozen ground and me walking very hesitantly (there is soooo much ice around I don't want to fall) and Timbit sitting on a nerve. I only have 9 days of work left and am looking forward to my year off with Timbit. We went up to Olds today to pick up the material for a change table/dresser. Now that Tim has the babies room done I couldn't let him not have a project to work on!!!

How exciting...it won't be long now anymore!! It's so neat to think that after all these years, Tim's Mom and I will have grandbabies born just weeks apart! How fun is that?
